品種名は河内晩柑（かわちばんかん）。美生柑（みしょうかん）という名は登録商標で、各生産地でいろいろな名称がつけられています。
大きさはオレンジと同じくらいです。表皮は鮮やかな黄色で、文旦系のとても良い香りがします。
果汁もたっぷりで、サッパリとした食味。
グレープフルーツのような苦みはなく「和製グレープフルーツ」とも言われます。
