ピタヤ（別名・ドラゴンフルーツ）には、白い果肉と赤い果肉のものがあります。
ちなみに、皮の黄色いイエローピタヤは果肉が白色です。
レッドピタヤはとても鮮やかな赤紫色の果肉で、白い果肉のものよりも甘さを感じます。
キウイのような食感で、クセのない爽やかな味です。
カットしてそのまま食べたり、サラダの具材などで食します。

果皮が竜の鱗のように見えるため「ドラゴンフルーツ」と呼ばれるサボテンの果実です。
国内での生産地は、沖縄県になります。
果肉にはゴマのような種子が散らばっていて、やわらかくサクサクとした食感です。
味はさっぱりとした甘さで、酸味はほとんどなく、追熟しません。
カットしたものにドレッシングをかけてサラダとして。また、冷たいデザートに向いています。
成分には葉酸やマグネシウムを多く含み、美容フルーツとしても注目されています。
