国産かぼちゃの端境期に多く輸入品が出回ります。

10･11月がニューカレドニア、トンガ産、12月･1月はメキシコ産、2月～4月はニュージーランド産、5月にまたメキシコ産が中心となります。輸入されるかぼちゃは、日本で栽培されていた品種の種を使用して、日本の栽培技術により生産された、いわば“日本生まれ”のかぼちゃであり、国産品と見た目、味に大きな違いはありません。（神戸税関のサイトより）

日本で栽培されているのは「日本かぼち・西洋かぼちゃ・ペポかぼちゃ」の３種類があり、品種もいろいろあります。
市場の主流は「西洋かぼちゃ」の一種「黒皮栗かぼちゃ」で、その品種として「えびすかぼちゃ」などがあります。
