粉質で味も良くカロテンの含有量が他のカボチャに比べて、特に多いです。
丸のままレンジで7～8程加熱してから調理すると扱いやすくなります。
小さいので、中をくり抜き調理し、そのまま器にしてグラタンやプリンなどの丸ごとのお料理もおすすめです。

国産かぼちゃの端境期に多く輸入品が出回ります。

日本で栽培されているのは「日本かぼち・西洋かぼちゃ・ペポかぼちゃ」の３種類があり、品種もいろいろあります。
